About Productions
Each year, YPT stages productions and events showcasing the writing of young playwrights and storytellers from across Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia. With professional actors, directors, and production crews, YPT elevates young peoples’ voices and brings their stories to life.
Young Playwrights in Progress
Young and early-career playwrights (14-24) can apply to work with YPT on script development and workshop readings for their original, not-yet-produced plays.
Silence is Violence
Since its inception in 2015, Silence Is Violence has been YPT’s most immediate and direct route of addressing social justice issues affecting Washington, DC area youth through performance and community dialogue. With these young people’s permission, YPT shapes their words into a theatrical production featuring professional performers, furthering YPT’s vision that young people’s voices are not only significant but also powerful.
